Dancing Shadows
2018, watercolor on cold press paper, 10×10″
This view screamed at me while I was talking with a client in the parking lot of the Santa Fe Community Foundation. I distractedly said goodbye then rushed over to take a bunch of pictures. I love rendering how the mid afternoon light hits the quintessentially blue door and window – quiet and private in their elegance. I also love how the shadows sway and dance on the stucco walls in cadence with tree branches seen and unseen. Painting wise, this piece involved a balance of detail and control and looseness and improvisation, skill that sometimes eludes me. I was very happy this balance agreed to show up for this one.
