Floating Carnation

Floating Carnation
2017, watercolor on cold press paper, 8×10″
I painted this after the honey jar piece (“Universe So Sweet”), still on a high about mixing textures and elements – wood, stucco, glass, water, and in this case the crepe paper quality of the carnation. I loved making the lip of the glass undulate, slightly imperfect, and exaggerating the wall colors and their reflections. This was not exaggerated by much, however. I had intentionally set up this still life in a place where there was a lot of reflected light from other objects (unseen to the viewer). Totally fun piece to paint.
